In September, the Arch Climbing Wall, London’s biggest & best climbing facility, played host to the super climbing-specific fitness event “ClimbFlow x Blocfit”.
The sold out event saw 40 climbers and budding fitness enthusiasts take part in two hour long sessions with people coming even from outside of London to take part. ClimbFlow is the original dynamic yoga movement + functional fitness fusion method created by Tiffany Soi for Climbers. The challenge was upped with supercharged movement from climbing fitness expert Blocfit’s Dave Culver. It made perfect sense to offer a session that offered the expertise and guidance of both ClimbFlow and Blocfit together: Flowing between fluid and challenging movement designed to develop strength, power, control & range of mobility from the core outwards, it was a fun & sweat filled morning that put everyone through paces to a mood boosting beats.
ClimbFlow was born organically out of Tiffany’s athletic experience, training, her fundamental passion for rock climbing & established competitive history, and work with some of Britain’s leading personal trainers, physical therapists and rehab specialists. The result is a unique dynamic yoga movement + functional fitness method providing an optimal workout & excellent antagonistic conditioning for climbers, or indeed, anyone with athletic & fitness pursuits. Blocfit was created by Dave Culver to provide tailored climbing specific training to climbers of all abilities in order to develop power, strength, endurance & mobility. Dave has worked with novices and aspiring talent up to Arch sponsored Team GB athletes both junior and senior, including current British Bouldering Champion and Arch Climbing Routesetter Matt Cousins.
The feedback from the event has been truly positive:
Heidy Khlaaf enthused "As a climber, Climbflow focuses exactly on the weaknesses that I need to improve on that I usually can't get from my strength training. You wouldn't think that it's possible to be strong AND flexible from the same workout but it provides exactly that. It's tremendous!"
Jyoti Sanghvi reported “It was so much more fun than ordinary yoga. After this session, I had my best lead climbing session in over a month, felt positive, relaxed and stronger than usual”
Jonny Kiehlmann added “It boosts my strength and flexibility, helps to ward off injury and aid recovery. Moving in playful ways to build up your core is great!”
Mary McElligott was the lucky winner of the competition to get her hands on a pair of Blocfit training grip balls-a brilliant accessory to finger boards and campus rungs to boost hand grip strength. All participants were treated to goodie bags from fantastic sponsors providing body boosts from the inside and out: Mio Skincare not only supplied the awesome drawstring bags, but also their Workout Wonder balm, a soothing and revitalising muscle treatment that provides cooling relief post exertion (reactions included “the icy sensation is so relieving!” and “can’t wait to slather it everywhere!”); Just Bee drinks offered the necessary refreshing, all-natural hydration in the form of their honey & fruit enriched spring waters (“I could drink this all day every day” said one woman); Post workout fuel, always important after exercising, was provided by BodyMe’s excellent organic protein bars (other than “I seriously needed that”, feedback included “Yay! A protein bar that actually tastes good”).
It was a highlight morning, bringing together so many collaborators and supporters of climbing, fitness and healthy living-A huge thanks goes out to The Arch Climbing Wall for hosting the morning, all the sponsors, the attendees who brought all their energy, and Obsession Climbing for capturing the sweat and smiles (check out the gallery below!)
If you missed out, you will be pleased to know that Tiffany will be back at The Arch Climbing Wall, Bermondsey on Saturday 17th December to run a ClimbFlow class. She will also be leading an intimate guest class for clients at Blocfit’s spanking new private training studio in Greenwich on Sunday 18th December. Stay tuned for ticket details to come.
